Crime Details:INDECENT ASSAULT TIMELY WARNING Possible Threat to the Community “Your Right to Know” May 3, 2014 REPORTED OFFENSE: Indecent Assault was reported to University Police on May 3, 2014 at approximately 3:28pm. The reported assault occurred on May 3, 2014 between approximately 1:45am and 2:00am, in the University’s South Residence Halls Complex known as McElwain Hall. McElwain Hall is located in the South Residence Halls Complex, adjacent to Simmons Hall. SUSPECTS: The suspect, unknown to the victim, is described as a college aged white male, 5’5”, with dark hair and thick eyebrows. The suspect was wearing a dark sweatshirt and dark sweatpants. The victim, a student, reported that sometime between 1:45am and 2:00am on May 3, 2014, they were inappropriately touched by an unknown male in the south loading dock area of McElwain Hall. It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible “dangerous conditions” on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus; an “affirmative duty” exists to warn persons associated with this University of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties. * In an effort to reduce your risk of becoming a victim, please keep these tips in mind. • Avoid traveling alone at night. Walk with a friend or use the Safe Walk Service at 865-WALK (9255). • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help. • Use the buddy system and watch out for each other. • If you feel you are being followed, cross the street, yell, run and look for a well-lit area or occupied building.
