Crime Details:Police looking for suspect who shot Bellefonte man while driving on Route 64 24-year-old seriously injured; police asking for public's help Sara Ganim- sganim@centredaily.com Rockview state police are investigating the shooting of a 24-year-old Bellefonte man, who was shot by someone in a passing vehicle as he drove down state Route 64 early Tuesday morning. Police aren’t releasing the name of the victim, who they say sustained “serious” injuries from the shooting, or information on possible suspects. The incident is being investigated as an attempted murder. “If it had been an inch higher, he’d have been dead,” said Sgt. Jim Emigh. As of Tuesday evening, police had no witnesses to the shooting, but had been conducting interviews and collecting evidence all day. “At this point, we’re completely exhausting every investigative tool we have,” Emigh said. The shooting happened around 5:05 a.m. near Penny Lane in Walker Township. The victim told police he was driving north when a vehicle began to pass on the left. “As said vehicle pulled alongside, someone inside the passing vehicle opened fire with an unknown weapon, striking the male subject in the left shoulder causing serious injury,” Trooper James P. Ellis wrote in a press release. Emigh said multiple shots were fired. The victim was alone in his vehicle but was able to pull off of the road and get help. Emigh said police aren’t releasing vehicle descriptions at this time. It was unclear how fast the cars were going. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ellis at the Rockview barracks at 355-7545 or call Crimestoppers @ 1-877-99-CRIME to report a crime anonymously.
