Crime Details:The State College Police Department is investigating two suspicious fires that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in the Borough of State College, Centre County, Pa. The first fire was reported at 7:43 P.M at 560 Westerly Parkway. The Alpha Fire Company and State College Police were called to a fully involved trash fire inside a dumpster. The dumpster was located behind the strip mall shopping center at that address. The trash inside the dumpster was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries and no building damage. The damage estimate for the dumpster is not yet determined. The second fire was reported at 8:30 P.M. at 653 Westerly Parkway. The fire company and police were called to a fully involved motor vehicle and storage building fire. The unattended vehicle was parked next to the storage building on the property of the State College Area School District High School North Building. The vehicle, an older model Ford Explorer SUV was a complete loss and the storage building was partially destroyed. The damage estimates are not yet available There were no injuries. The Centre Region Fire Marshal was called to the scene of the second fire and the preliminary ruling is that the vehicle and storage building fire was intentionally set. At this time, the cause of the dumpster fire is not known but is considered suspicious. The investigation continues and is being conducted by the State College Police Department and the Centre Region Fire Marshall.
